GREENSBORO — McLeansville native turned "American Idol" star Chris Daughtry will perform with his band in Greensboro on Dec. 21.

Daughtry, with Chris Daughtry on vocals, Josh Paul on bass, Joey Barnes on drums and Brian Craddock and Josh Steely on guitar, will perform in War Memorial Auditorium at 8 p.m.

"It's gonna be amazing to be back in Joeys' and my hometown," Chris Daughtry said in a press release Friday.

Daughtry last performed in Greensboro during a downtown block party in March where the video for the hit single "Home" was filmed.

The free outdoor concert drew more than 23,000 people and was one of the largest public events in downtown Greensboro's history.

Tickets for the Dec. 21 show, which are $30, will go on sale Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m.

They can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 852-1100 in Greensboro and 722-6400 in Winston-Salem, at Ticketmaster retail ticket center locations including the FYE and Macy's stores in Greensboro and at the Coliseum advance box office.

Daughtry's band was recently nominated for three 2007 American Music Awards.

  Daughtry announces new London gig
Tour News

US superstars Daughtry have confirmed only their second ever UK show at the Scala in London on 27th November 2007.

The band last played in the country in June of this year when their Borderline show sold out in a matter of minutes and fans camped out all day for tickets that were changing hands on the internet for £400.

The band, fronted by Chris Daughtry have been touring consistently across the US since the release of their debut album in the US last November and have gone on to sell an incredible 3 million copies and hitting the number one spot (twice!) on the Billboard top 100.

It’s still the biggest selling album in the US this year, and new single ‘Over You’ is one of the most added songs at US radio, currently at no. 25 in the Billboard chart and rising. The album entered the UK charts at No. 13 upon it’s release in August.

Having recently visited Singapore and Australia for the first time, Daughtry returned to the US to discover they had been nominated for 3 American Music Awards: Favourite Album (Pop or Rock), Favourite Artist (Adult Contemporary) and Favourite Breakthrough Artist

Vocalist Chris Daughtry came to prominence as one of the runners up in American Idol, and is only the second artist to have come out of the show to have had any international success. With huge interest building across Europe, Daughtry could well be the first musical reality show contestant to truly become a worldwide star.

Debut single ‘It’s Not Over’ is looking to crack into the German top ten this week, proving the appeal of the classic songwriting and emotive vocals of Daughtry is truly universal.

Daughtry consist of Josh Paul (bass), Joey Barnes (drums), Brian Craddock (guitar), Josh Steely (guitar) and Chris Daughtry (vocals). They recorded their triple platinum album with Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects) which went on to spend over 30 weeks in the Billboard Top Ten on release. The band will release a single ‘Home’ on 7th January (originally scheduled for late October).

He's "coming home": Daughtry's show at state fair is a sellout
General DAUGHTRY news
October 18, 2007 3:02 AM
The hysteria that is an airport could be heard in the background. Chris Daughtry, lead singer of the rock band Daughtry, had just gotten off a plane in San Diego; he was walking and talking, juggling luggage and trying to conduct an interview while horsing around with bandmates.

The bald rocker who first burst onto the scene on TV’s “American Idol” seems to be everywhere these days. Just last week, it was announced that Daughtry is up for three American Music Awards, including Favorite Album/Pop or Rock, Favorite Artist/Adult Contemporary and Favorite Breakthrough Artist. Close to a month ago, Daughtry performed “Suspicious Minds” for an ABC TV special devoted to one of his musical heroes, Elvis Presley.

Life is good — and hectic.

Last year at this time, Daughtry was able to take his kids trick-or-treating — that won’t happen this year — the band will be on tour in Germany. A few days after that, Daughtry returns to the states for two shows Nov. 3-4 with Bon Jovi at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Being away from home “takes its toll on you but it’s not as bad as you think. We definitely love what we’re doing; it’s what we’ve been working toward for 15 years or so,” Daughtry said. “I think it definitely helps that we’re opening for bands like Bon Jovi.”

Late nights and constant travel are occupational hazards, but Daughtry remains focused, grounded. It still hasn’t sunk in that his name and face are becoming synonymous with rockers he’s admired for so many years, like frontman Jon Bon Jovi.

“It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around it,” he said.

Daughtry has been so busy that he hasn’t had a chance to check out messages from fans on the band’s Web site.

“It’s kind of ‘go, go, go’ for us. There’s not a whole lot of time to take a look at it but we’re glad it’s a place fans can go to leave messages … when we do have a chance to pull it up,” he said.

On the site, there are several messages indicating the song “Home” has been played at funerals of loved ones, weddings and other events.

“I think it’s great people get different things from the song … they’re able to make it their own,” he said.

Daughtry may be a big-time rocker but he sounds much like someone you know. During the interview, he continued to joke around with drummer Joey Barnes, Jr., of Greensboro to the point of shouting “Shut up!”

“Not you,” he said. “People are talking to me when I’m trying to conduct an interview. Geez.”

Although Daughtry is originally from Virginia, the band has a lot of fans in North Carolina. Proof of that popularity was evident at the free concert in downtown Greensboro back in March, a show held in conjunction with the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. Daughtry plays Saturday at the North Carolina State Fair; that concert is sold out.

“It’s gonna be awesome,” he said. “We can’t wait to get back home.”

Daughtry belongs in the big leagues of rock
General DAUGHTRY news

If it galls you that an American Idol fourth-place finisher could go on to release the fastest-selling debut rock album of all time, you most likely have never heard Chris Daughtry sing.

From the beginning of Idol's fifth season, it was clear the singer from North Carolina was a man among boys.

Daughtry's voice -- powerful enough for almost any hard rock band, yet with the elegance necessary to handle melodically intricate classics -- is easily the most radio-friendly possessed by any male contestant on Idol so far, including season four favorite Bo Bice.

Tuesday night at a near-capacity Hard Rock Live Arena at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Hollywood, Daughtry more than proved he belongs in the big leagues with a lively hour-long set that showcased his ability to both lead a driving rock band authoritatively and transfix the crowd during more mellow, solo moments.

An American Idol favorite might be expected to attract mainly teenyboppers, but that wasn't the case for Daughtry: Couples in their 30s and 40s were as plentiful as screaming 15-year-old girls.

In front of a colorful, elaborately lit stage dominated by the Daughtry logo superimposed over a Victorian-style headboard, the singer and his five-piece band tore into Crashed, from the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack, with Daughtry using a megaphone for extra oomph.

There's only one album under Daughtry's belt, so the show was entirely predictable, with the charismatic singer pleasing the crowd with the new single, the Nickelback-like rock anthem Over You; the punchy What I Want (ex-Guns N' Roses axman Slash wasn't missed at all on guitar); and the tender, acoustic Breakdown, in which he asks an unstable lover to ``keep it together now.''

He also proved to be a crafty showman: When the music lulled during the midtempo snoozers Used To and Gone, Daughtry would give some sort of shout-out to win cheers and keep everyone alert. And when he warned, ''We're gonna get sappy on you now,'' the audience couldn't have predicted the next song would be one of the most moving performances of the night. What About Now, the final song on his album, captured all the drama of a top-notch Idol performance.

Naturally, Daughtry didn't forget his bread and butter -- the massive hits Home, whose chorus ''I'm going home'' evolved into a salve for exiting Idol contenders, and It's Not Over, a fitting answer to his early, some would say shocking, ouster from the show.

Chris Daughtry, the lead singer for DAUGHTRY, performs at the Homecoming concert on Friday night. The Homecoming concert was held in Coleman Coliseum for students and the general public.

On Friday night, students and the general public alike nearly filled all available seats in Coleman Coliseum to hear triple-platinum band DAUGHTRY, headliner of the 2007 Homecoming concert.

But lead singer and "American Idol" alumnus Chris Daughtry, in a pre-concert interview with The Crimson White, reveals that none of the success has gone to his head.

"Who am I? I'm just a normal dude that got lucky, I guess," said Daughtry on Friday night, just before he was to perform at Coleman.

"I've been doing this for eleven years, playing the same bars over and over for the same people, and I finally got my break," Daughtry said, referring to his appearance as a finalist on "American Idol."

Throughout the interview, Daughtry continued to emanate that same sort of humble attitude, though he admitted that his musical ability and perseverance played a part in his rise to fame.

"I decided [if] people aren't coming out to see me, you know, from record labels, I might as well go get seen," he said, pointing out that had he not auditioned for "American Idol," he would likely still be an unknown playing in bars.
