Daughtry one of Itunes top 5 sellers
|
|
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Maroon 5 and Fergie hold the top spots on iTunes' year-end sales roundup.
The online music store released its top-selling albums and singles Tuesday, though it declined to release actual sales figures.
Maroon 5's sophomore album, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long," was the No. 1 seller on the site, followed by Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" and Kanye West's "Graduation." Winehouse and West are also leaders heading into the 50th annual Grammy Awards — he has eight nominations, she has six.
Rounding out the top five best-selling albums were "American Idol" alum Chris Daughtry's band's self-titled debut, "Daughtry," and "Coco" by newcomer Colbie Caillat, who has the hit "Bubbly."
Fergie came in at first and fifth place in single sales. Her hit "Big Girls Don't Cry" was the top-selling single of the year for iTunes, while "Glamorous" finished in fifth. Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" came in second place, followed by Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" and Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend."

Daughtry's set on MLB.com
|
|
Platinum-selling rockers go acoustic on four-song set
• Daughtry performs 'All These Lives' 400K
• Daughtry performs 'Breakdown' 400K
• Daughtry performs 'It's Not Over' 400K
• MLB.com/Entertainment
Daughtry is quickly becoming one of the most popular live acts in rock, and the band members also happen to be huge baseball fans. Putting the two passions together, it was a no-brainer to have them in the MLB.com studios recently to perform.
Hot on the heels of their platinum-selling, self-titled debut album, Daughtry has been packing concert halls all over the country with its brand of infectious, hard-rocking pop featuring the lead vocals of Chris Daughtry.
They brought that energy, enthusiasm and talent to MLB.com, where they kicked back and did acoustic versions of four hit songs -- "It's Not Over," "Breakdown," "All These Lives" and "Home" -- that we'll be breaking out on the site over the next four days.
"It's Not Over," the first single on Daughtry, went platinum in April, just as the baseball season was kicking into gear, and it's ranked in the Top 10 of best-selling digital songs in 2007. "It's Not Over" turned out to be an astute choice as the band's debut single, too. It garnered critical acclaim from Billboard magazine, which wrote that the song was "tight, focused and ready to rock your face off" and Entertainment Weekly called it "ridiculously catchy."
"Breakdown," with music and lyrics by Chris, is a slower ballad, a classic break-up song with some hope of reconciliation. "Well, it's not the time to break down," he sings. "It's not the time to break up this love/Keep it together now." Chris often plays this one alone with an acoustic guitar in a live setting, allowing his powerful voice to be heard more clearly than when he's rocking out with the band.
"All These Lives" shows the depth of Chris' writing, with the slowed-down song, also often performed solo and acoustic in concert, dealing with the horrifying subject of child abduction.
"Home," the second single off of Daughtry, gained quite a bit of fame by being the song played on the sixth season of "American Idol" when contestants were voted off, and it peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Chris actually wrote the song the day before he left his North Carolina home to embark on the "American Idol" journey that eventually made him a household name to music fans everywhere.
Note: OK..... thought I put this one up almost 2 weeks ago, but apparently not. I KNOW they're not talkin about Chris when they say that the band members are huge baseball fans. LOL

Daughtry up for 4 Grammys
|
|
Well out of the 11 entries, Daughtry has received nominations for 4 Grammys. There's nothing we can do to help with this one. We voted the boys to 3 AMAs, and the voting for The People's Choice Awards has ended. Now we just have to wait and see what happens.
Daughtry is nominated for :
Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: "Home"
Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: "It's Not Over"
Best Rock Song: "It's Not Over"
Best Rock Album: DAUGHTRY
You can check who they're up against here: Grammy nominations
Although I'm ecstatic with 4 nominations, I'm shocked that they didn't nab a nomination for Best New Artist. Then I read the criteria "(For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist.)"... SO technically Daughtry wasn't released in 2007.
Howard Benson, the producer of Daughtry is also up for a producer's award. Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Let's wish him luck as well.
Howard Benson
• Daughtry (Daughtry) (A)
• Devils & Angels (Mêlée) (A)
• Direction (The Starting Line) (A)
• Five Score And Seven Years Ago (Relient K) (A)
• Stay Inside (Sound The Alarm) (A)

GIG REVIEW: Daughtry
Daughtry
Scala, London
27th November 2007
Review by Katie Spain
When I met Chris Daughtry in a London studio last month, I was struck by his resemblance to Live’s Ed Kowalczyk and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan. Turns out he has the voice to match. In the half-hour I spent interviewing him and bass player Brian Craddock we talked about Batman, bald heads and Bon Jovi. Last night at their sold out Scala gig however, the guys talked only one language; good old fashioned Rock.
Since our first meeting, it’s all been happening in Daughtry world and last night, the London crowd were pulled in for the ride. Walking must be hard for this lot right now - what, with pockets full of American Music Awards (three in the last innings) and a UK album release on the way, there's a big load to carry. Hang on... is that a hint of cockiness I notice? Nope, it must have been an optical illusion - this is a group with as much natural charisma and genuine respect for the fans it's almost sickening. Pass me a towel... I'm about to start gushing.
Like their previous London gig at the Borderline, last night's show sold out in minutes. Word has spread about the tattooed apple of America's eye. It's no wonder really - the frontman reached the final of 'American Idol' before losing out ahead of the finishing line. Fate? Maybe... chat to Chris, and you see that he was keen to bypass the Idol days, straight into the unit that is 'Daughtry'; A tight, awe-inspiring unit that'll blow your socks off. Spare them the clichés though journos - Idol was but a mere flash in the pan when this lot are concerned. The proof is in the American puddin' and last night London witnessed the most exciting live experience I've seen in a long time.

UK Daughtry fans, here's a chance to see them live!

COMPETITION: Win two Daughtry tickets.

Daughtry
Scala, Nov 27th
As you are probably well aware, Daughtry's Scala gig on November 27th is sold-out. But guess what? We have two tickets up for grabs. These tickets are absolute gold dust on the music scene and Seatwave are giving you the chance to be in reaching distance of the gold itself. Can’t believe your luck? Well, read on.
US superstars Daughtry have confirmed their second ever UK show at the Scala in London on 27th November 2007. The band last played in the country in June of this year when their Borderline show sold out in a matter of minutes and fans camped out all day for tickets that were changing hands on the internet for £400.
The band is fronted by Chris Daughtry, who rose to fame after he became a runner-up on American Idol. Not many people who have entered a talent contest have come out with international success.
Daughtry have been touring consistently across the US since the release of their debut album in the US last November and have gone on to sell an incredible three million copies and hitting the number one spot (twice!) on the Billboard top 100.
With huge interest building across Europe, Daughtry could well be the first musical reality show contestant to truly become a worldwide star. Their debut single ‘It’s Not Over’ is looking to crack into the German top ten this week, proving the appeal of the classic songwriting and emotive vocals of Daughtry is truly universal.
Don't miss out on Daughtry's gig at the Scala! Enter our competition and the tickets could be yours.
Please tell us what your most memorable gig is. Email the answer to Seatwave at competition@seatwave.com
Don't forget to leave your name, address and telephone number.
The winner will be picked at random. The gig is on Tuesday so we will need to be able to contact you on Monday. Please do not enter unless you can check your email on Monday.
If you don't want to leave things in the hand of fate, then buy your Daughtry tickets from Seatwave.
Daughtry's new songle 'Home' will be out on 7th Jan 2008.

Rock Band Daughtry Hopes to make a difference for kids with Autism
|
|
POAC…Parents Of Autistic Children to Benefit from Proceeds

HAZLET, N.J.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Parents Of Autistic Children (POAC) a non profit organization from Hazlet, New Jersey who provides scientifically based training to parents, teachers, emergency care providers and loved ones of autistic children throughout the area, is happy to announce that a portion of the proceeds from the Daughtry Concert at the Nokia Theater in Times Square New York City on Tuesday December 4th and Wednesday December 5th are to benefit POAC.
Earlier in the year, triple-platinum recording group Daughtry and their management team at 19 Entertainment were contacted by Kevin Martin, lead singer of the multi-platinum rock band Candlebox to perform together in a concert to benefit Martin’s favorite charity, POAC. Immediately Daughtry replied with a resounding yes. Since that time the two groups were having a tricky time finding a schedule that would work out where they both could play together.
“I was really stoked when Kevin gave me the call to play with him for his autism charity, since then we have been trying to find the time with both of our busy schedules,” said band leader Chris Daughtry. “My band and I are thrilled to do whatever we can to help all of the kids suffering with autism and it is especially exciting to be able to do it during this Holiday Season,” Chris added.
19 Entertainment has agreed to donate $2.50 from each ticket sold during the two day, sold out event at the Nokia Theater in New York’s popular Times Square. The potential monies to be raised during the highly anticipated event could be in excess of $10,000.00. “My wife and family are such big fans of Daughtry and it touches my heart that they would be doing this for POAC,” said Gary Weitzen, President of POAC. “Not only am I excited to receive the money that will be spent wisely to help so many families with a loved one with autism, but I also am thrilled to see the show! I am so thankful to Kevin Martin and Daughtry for making this possible,” Mr. Weitzen continued.
Daughtry was seen on ABC Television last Sunday during the American Music Awards where the group performed an acoustic version of their hit song ‘Home’. The band was able to walk away with a AMA hat trick last night as they walked away with three awards, Favorite Rock/Pop Album, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Favorite Breakthrough Artist. The group has also been nominated for two People’s Choice Awards to be aired on CBS on January 8, 2008; nominations include: Favorite Group and Favorite Rock Song (“Home”).
For Daughtry fans that live abroad or may not be able to make the show and still wish to support the band and its labors in helping this fine and deserving Organization, donations can be made at www.rockforadifference.org, a website that was created for the Organization in their efforts to reach out to and educate a younger market about the effects of autism, to promote a series of future benefit concerts and to hold on line auctions of autographed memorabilia by popular musicians, artists and athletes to help continue the POAC mission. If you love someone with autism and would like to attend one of the many POAC Sponsored free training workshops, wish to find out more information about the Organization, or have some fund raising ideas of your own, please call 732 888 1000 or visit them on-line at www.poac.net.

For those that tuned in, hope you enjoyed the show. Heather held it together with strep throat to field questions from the board. I handled the conference line coordination so we had a way to get him to you, AND of course our UNofficial MC rocked it out as usual! It was our pleasure to host the UNofficial Daughtry Anniversary Party, and you can bet your panties (the ones you didn't throw at Joey) that we'll all be watching tomorrow to see what he wears to the stage when Daughtry accepts the awards. (Hopefully a clean sweep).
I have recorded the broadcast and we will be announcing a rebroadcast soon. If you missed it, you'll still have an opportunity to listen in. You can bet that once Joey has a CD ready, we'll be playing the hell out of it.
Take a listen to Joey's solo works at www.joeybarnes.net under downloads, then hit his myspace to let him know what you think. www.myspace.com/joeybarnesmusic. Joey has gone out of his way to connect with as many Daughtry fans as possible.
We appreciate the time he took to do this while out in L.A. shooting a video and getting ready for the AMAs.
THANK YOU JOEY!

Daughtry featured on Majic Miracle Music CD
|
|
Fort Wayne, Ind. -- Sweetwater, the fourth-largest music instrument and pro audio retailer in the world, according to Music Trades magazine, and Fort Wayne radio station Majic 95.1 WAJI, have combined forces to issue Volume Two of Majic Miracle Music, a compilation CD of new recordings by national musicians, which will be sold locally with all proceeds to benefit Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. The CD is priced at $10 and is available, along with Volume One, at Anchor Books, Anne’s Hallmark stores, Borders, and Higher Grounds Coffee Shops, as well as Sweetwater’s new retail store at 5501 US Highway 30 W, and online at: www.waji.com (and) www.sweetwater.com/miracle/
Nationally recognized artists, including Sara Bareilles, Jon McLaughlin, Daughtry, Augustana, Michael W. Smith, Jim Brickman & Anne Cochran, REO Speedwagon and Five For Fighting, appear on the CD with new, acoustic versions of their popular hits. Local artists on the disc include Dan Nightingale and Madeline's Toy Box. Eight of the CD’s 15 songs were recorded at Sweetwater Productions, the region’s premier recording studio. The others are acoustic recordings donated by the artists.
"Majic Miracle Music Volume One was great last year, and raised more than $8,000, but Volume Two is unbelievable---Daughtry, Five for Fighting, REO Speedwagon, Michael W. Smith and more!” said WAJI Program Director, Barb Richards. "We are so blessed to have Sweetwater Sound right here in Fort Wayne. They have a true desire to help the kids at Riley and we thank them so much!"
Majic Miracle Music is a project of Sweetwater Studio 95, a partnership launched in 2006 by Sweetwater Sound and Majic 95.1 WAJI for the recording of live, acoustic versions of songs by bands and artists visiting Fort Wayne. These recordings, along with extended interviews, are broadcast on Majic 95 in regular rotation.
“We’re delighted to be a partner in supporting a wonderful organization like Riley Hospital for Children, and to be able to contribute by doing what we do best,” said Sweetwater President and Founder, Chuck Surack. “We hope that everyone will show their support by purchasing the Majic Miracle Music CD for themselves, and as a gift for friends and family.”
