GREENSBORO — "It's good to be home."
Chris Daughtry opened his concert Friday night with those words, and he repeated them later in the show.
Daughtry's two-night stand at War Memorial Auditorium is a sort of victory lap after an amazing year that saw his self-titled debut album go triple platinum and net him four Grammy nominations.
He was an altogether more seasoned and confident performer than the last time he passed through these parts. Daughtry and his four-man band — which includes drummer Joey Barnes, another Triad homeboy — have gelled into a bonafide, take-no-prisoners rock band.
Daughtry projected both a diehard rocker's swagger and a hometown hero's likability. He came out at 10 p.m. wearing a black scarf and wool cap over a basic workingman's
T-shirt and jeans.
The group immediately delved into some of their hardest, heaviest rockers, including "What I Want," signaling what I hope is a direction they will pursue even more avidly on their next album. Barnes played energetically throughout the evening but was particularly impressive on this number.
Throughout the night, the spotlight was squarely on the homeboys — Daughtry and Barnes — while the rest of his bandmates genially played their parts with energetic aplomb.
At one point, a translucent scrim came down, and Daughtry, strumming an acoustic guitar, sang in front of it. This gave him the opportunity to banter with the crowd and play a few of his quieter numbers, including a promising new one titled "Back to Me."
He began one of his best-known songs, "It's Not Over"; then the curtain disappeared, and the band came crashing in for a full-on electric finale.
Being that he only has one album from which to draw material, Daughtry threw a cover song or two into the show, including a brief, blistering take on Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City" and a verse of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line," interpolated into "What About Now."
Daughtry's full, robust voice showed no ill effects from a lengthy bout of touring, which bodes well for his career. If his reception at his Friday night show is any indication — with no one sitting down for the entire performance and girls punctuating the air with Beatles-ish screams — he is in for one heck of a ride.
Daughtry was preceded by two opening acts, You Are I Am and Midway State. The former were agreeable enough but left little impression, while the latter were a tad earnest and overwrought.

Daughtry covers "Imagine" (John Lennon)

I'm lovin the Daughtry version of this classic. This is from PacificVibe on Youtube. Great sound on this video! I have to say, it's not something I would "Imagine" Chris singing, but as usual he nails it.

GIG REVIEW: Daughtry
Daughtry
Scala, London
27th November 2007
Review by Katie Spain
When I met Chris Daughtry in a London studio last month, I was struck by his resemblance to Live’s Ed Kowalczyk and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan. Turns out he has the voice to match. In the half-hour I spent interviewing him and bass player Brian Craddock we talked about Batman, bald heads and Bon Jovi. Last night at their sold out Scala gig however, the guys talked only one language; good old fashioned Rock.
Since our first meeting, it’s all been happening in Daughtry world and last night, the London crowd were pulled in for the ride. Walking must be hard for this lot right now - what, with pockets full of American Music Awards (three in the last innings) and a UK album release on the way, there's a big load to carry. Hang on... is that a hint of cockiness I notice? Nope, it must have been an optical illusion - this is a group with as much natural charisma and genuine respect for the fans it's almost sickening. Pass me a towel... I'm about to start gushing.
Like their previous London gig at the Borderline, last night's show sold out in minutes. Word has spread about the tattooed apple of America's eye. It's no wonder really - the frontman reached the final of 'American Idol' before losing out ahead of the finishing line. Fate? Maybe... chat to Chris, and you see that he was keen to bypass the Idol days, straight into the unit that is 'Daughtry'; A tight, awe-inspiring unit that'll blow your socks off. Spare them the clichés though journos - Idol was but a mere flash in the pan when this lot are concerned. The proof is in the American puddin' and last night London witnessed the most exciting live experience I've seen in a long time.

COMPETITION: Win two Daughtry tickets.

Daughtry
Scala, Nov 27th
As you are probably well aware, Daughtry's Scala gig on November 27th is sold-out. But guess what? We have two tickets up for grabs. These tickets are absolute gold dust on the music scene and Seatwave are giving you the chance to be in reaching distance of the gold itself. Can’t believe your luck? Well, read on.
US superstars Daughtry have confirmed their second ever UK show at the Scala in London on 27th November 2007. The band last played in the country in June of this year when their Borderline show sold out in a matter of minutes and fans camped out all day for tickets that were changing hands on the internet for £400.
The band is fronted by Chris Daughtry, who rose to fame after he became a runner-up on American Idol. Not many people who have entered a talent contest have come out with international success.
Daughtry have been touring consistently across the US since the release of their debut album in the US last November and have gone on to sell an incredible three million copies and hitting the number one spot (twice!) on the Billboard top 100.
With huge interest building across Europe, Daughtry could well be the first musical reality show contestant to truly become a worldwide star. Their debut single ‘It’s Not Over’ is looking to crack into the German top ten this week, proving the appeal of the classic songwriting and emotive vocals of Daughtry is truly universal.

Rock Band Daughtry Hopes to make a difference for kids with Autism

POAC…Parents Of Autistic Children to Benefit from Proceeds

HAZLET, N.J.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Parents Of Autistic Children (POAC) a non profit organization from Hazlet, New Jersey who provides scientifically based training to parents, teachers, emergency care providers and loved ones of autistic children throughout the area, is happy to announce that a portion of the proceeds from the Daughtry Concert at the Nokia Theater in Times Square New York City on Tuesday December 4th and Wednesday December 5th are to benefit POAC.
Earlier in the year, triple-platinum recording group Daughtry and their management team at 19 Entertainment were contacted by Kevin Martin, lead singer of the multi-platinum rock band Candlebox to perform together in a concert to benefit Martin’s favorite charity, POAC. Immediately Daughtry replied with a resounding yes. Since that time the two groups were having a tricky time finding a schedule that would work out where they both could play together.
“I was really stoked when Kevin gave me the call to play with him for his autism charity, since then we have been trying to find the time with both of our busy schedules,” said band leader Chris Daughtry. “My band and I are thrilled to do whatever we can to help all of the kids suffering with autism and it is especially exciting to be able to do it during this Holiday Season,” Chris added.
19 Entertainment has agreed to donate $2.50 from each ticket sold during the two day, sold out event at the Nokia Theater in New York’s popular Times Square. The potential monies to be raised during the highly anticipated event could be in excess of $10,000.00. “My wife and family are such big fans of Daughtry and it touches my heart that they would be doing this for POAC,” said Gary Weitzen, President of POAC. “Not only am I excited to receive the money that will be spent wisely to help so many families with a loved one with autism, but I also am thrilled to see the show! I am so thankful to Kevin Martin and Daughtry for making this possible,” Mr. Weitzen continued.
Daughtry was seen on ABC Television last Sunday during the American Music Awards where the group performed an acoustic version of their hit song ‘Home’. The band was able to walk away with a AMA hat trick last night as they walked away with three awards, Favorite Rock/Pop Album, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Favorite Breakthrough Artist. The group has also been nominated for two People’s Choice Awards to be aired on CBS on January 8, 2008; nominations include: Favorite Group and Favorite Rock Song (“Home”).
For Daughtry fans that live abroad or may not be able to make the show and still wish to support the band and its labors in helping this fine and deserving Organization, donations can be made at www.rockforadifference.org, a website that was created for the Organization in their efforts to reach out to and educate a younger market about the effects of autism, to promote a series of future benefit concerts and to hold on line auctions of autographed memorabilia by popular musicians, artists and athletes to help continue the POAC mission. If you love someone with autism and would like to attend one of the many POAC Sponsored free training workshops, wish to find out more information about the Organization, or have some fund raising ideas of your own, please call 732 888 1000 or visit them on-line at www.poac.net.

All...
As we stated we will post more information as we have it. If the show is canceled altogether, of course there will be refunds. That being said, the reason we don't have details yet is that they are doing their best to reschedule the date instead of simply canceling. They cannot take/handle/deal with refunds until they know if they will be hosting a new date.
Everyone is doing their best to reschedule. Please be patient. The cancellation occurred less than 24 hours ago for a show that was scheduled for this evening.
The fact that all involved are working on a rescheduled date should also be an indication that this is about illness, not attendance levels or ticket sales.
We appreciate those of you who are patient as we wait for further info. The last thing we would do is hold it back from you. We post any information we have as soon as it is 100% confirmed.
