Daughtry announces new London gig
US superstars Daughtry have confirmed only their second ever UK show at the Scala in London on 27th November 2007.
The band last played in the country in June of this year when their Borderline show sold out in a matter of minutes and fans camped out all day for tickets that were changing hands on the internet for £400.
The band, fronted by Chris Daughtry have been touring consistently across the US since the release of their debut album in the US last November and have gone on to sell an incredible 3 million copies and hitting the number one spot (twice!) on the Billboard top 100.
It’s still the biggest selling album in the US this year, and new single ‘Over You’ is one of the most added songs at US radio, currently at no. 25 in the Billboard chart and rising. The album entered the UK charts at No. 13 upon it’s release in August.
Having recently visited Singapore and Australia for the first time, Daughtry returned to the US to discover they had been nominated for 3 American Music Awards: Favourite Album (Pop or Rock), Favourite Artist (Adult Contemporary) and Favourite Breakthrough Artist
Vocalist Chris Daughtry came to prominence as one of the runners up in American Idol, and is only the second artist to have come out of the show to have had any international success. With huge interest building across Europe, Daughtry could well be the first musical reality show contestant to truly become a worldwide star.
Debut single ‘It’s Not Over’ is looking to crack into the German top ten this week, proving the appeal of the classic songwriting and emotive vocals of Daughtry is truly universal.
Daughtry consist of Josh Paul (bass), Joey Barnes (drums), Brian Craddock (guitar), Josh Steely (guitar) and Chris Daughtry (vocals). They recorded their triple platinum album with Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects) which went on to spend over 30 weeks in the Billboard Top Ten on release. The band will release a single ‘Home’ on 7th January (originally scheduled for late October).
live 27th November London, Scala Tickets: £12.50 Doors: 7.30pm

SINGAPORE: It really doesn't matter that Chris Daughtry never made it to the final showdown in season five of American Idol. Not when his band's debut album outsold Idol winner Taylor Hick's.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter fronts his namesake band, Daughtry, as lead vocalist, with Brian Craddock and Josh Steely on guitar, Josh Paul on bass and Joey Barnes on drums.
The band's debut self-titled album, featuring favourites "Home" and "It's Not Over", is the fastest-selling rock debut album in Soundscan history. "Daughtry" was the top-selling album in the United States not once, but twice after its release in November 2006, and has since sold more than three million copies.
The former Idol contestant and his band members have performed with their own bands since a young age, but their talents have only recently been recognised. "This is stuff we've always wanted to do and I guess we just didn't have the access to the people who can get us there," said Daughtry.
"So, doing that for so long and not making any progress, I decided to go on a TV show and see if I could get any body's attention."
Attention is not the only thing that Daughtry and his band have achieved, but fame and fortune too, and as guitarist Brian Craddock put it, a dream job come true. "When I wake up in the morning I don't have to go to my day job like I always go to before."
"It's exciting, we get to go places we never thought we'd ever go in our life, so it's awesome for us as much as it is for the fans," continued Daughtry.
The rock band has been on tour since January 2007, and is now in Singapore, their only stop in Asia. The group touched down on Tuesday, and has since been to local shops and eateries. They claim to have gotten more recognition here in the island city-state then in their native homeland.
"It's funny because we went to London and Canada, and I get recognised more here in Singapore than I did in Canada or London," said the lead vocalist. "It was really cool. I went to Starbucks and everybody wanted pictures.
"(It's great) to go all the way across to the other side of the world and (find out that our music) has the same impact here, it's pretty phenomenal to us because I guess it's not normal for every band to make it."
The band is all set to rock Powerhouse in St. James Power Station on Thursday evening, and entry is by invitation only. – CNA/yb

Daughtry at the Layne Staley Benefit
Layne Staley benefit
Daughtry, Soulbender and Riverbend are among the acts scheduled for Saturday's sixth annual Layne Staley Tribute and Benefit Concert at 7 p.m. at The Showbox.
The former Alice in Chains lead singer, who died in April 2002 of a drug overdose, is still revered by Chains fans, who paid tribute to the fallen Seattle rock star shortly after his death. All proceeds from the event will go to the Layne Staley Fund, a nonprofit organization created 2002 to raise money for community chemical dependency facilities, drug education and outreach programs in a city that has seen more than its share of drug-related deaths. The fund was established by Nancy McCallum, Staley's mother, and Jamie Richards of Emerald City Musician's Network.
The lineup for the show (which coincides with Staley's Aug. 22 birthday) is impressive. Daughtry, which has cited Staley as a major inspiration for its music, has one of the top-selling rock debut albums of the year. Soulbender features Queensryche's Michael Wilton, as well as Travis Bracht, Ray Hartman and Chuck Miller. Bracht will sing a song with Daughtry, which also plans to sing the Alice in Chains classic, "Would." Up-and-coming Riverbend includes Izzy Gleason, Jesse Kaein, Cody James and Bryan Seeley.
The evening includes a jam band with guests from the Seattle music community, a special performance by McCallum and possibly a taped greeting from Alice in Chains members.
Alice in Chains reunited last year, with William DuVall filling in for Staley. A reunion tour included a concert at the Moore Theatre.
Tickets for the tribute are $25 at Ticketmaster. For more information, visit laynestaleyfund.com.
He’s been called the must successful rock singer of 2006, and his following has continued to grow in 2007 with the release of the hit single “Home.”
“American Idol” star Chris Daughtry was voted off the show in May 2006, but his star has only risen since then. His debut album was released under the band name Daughtry in November.
A month later, Bill Graening, longtime organizer of the annual Alive Festival, booked Daughtry for his new Blink Festival, which opens on Friday at the Clay’s Park Resort amphitheater.
Graening doesn’t believe in luck, but he can’t believe his luck in booking Daughtry when he did.
“People keep asking me, ‘Is he really gonna be there?’” he said. “We were very lucky to get him.”
Daughtry will be the headliner for the inaugural Blink Festival, which runs from 2-10 p.m. Friday and 2-11 p.m. Saturday at the Canal Fulton venue. Gates will open at noon and close at midnight both days.
Graening hopes to make Blink an annual event like the Alive Festival that he has been promoting for 20 years, but he is quick to add that Blink is not limited to contemporary Christian artists.
“The idea behind it was to do something that was different than what we do at Alive,” he said. “This is meant to be a hard-edged event with more variety.”
Among the other artists booked for Blink are MxPx, Red, Haste the Day, Thousand-Foot Krutch, 12 Stones, Pillar, Inhale Exhale, and Day of Fire.
Graening said all the acts will be “lyrically safe” despite their harder edge. No drinking or smoking will be permitted during the festival.
“This is meant to be safe, non-threatening, but harder, rock,” he said. “A lot of churches are bringing people because they know the bands are good.”
The name for the Blink Festival comes from the fact that it is only two days, “as in, you blink and it’s over,” Graening said. “It’s that last big festival before you go back to school. It’s that end-of-summer bash.”
In addition to the music, there will be food vendors, artist merchandise and special attractions at the festival, he said.
Tickets are available at the gate for Friday ($35), Saturday ($40) or both days ($60). They may be purchased in advance through Ticketmaster.

Nick Rogers Column: Daughtry is the big ticket
Published Thursday, August 09, 2007
Sound the Google alert alarm, as the words “numbers” and “Illinois State Fair” have just been used in the same sentence.
The rabid can quit drooling, though. The only buzzwords starting with “B” that you’ll find here are Bleu and Bell, as in Corbin and Drake.
On the topic of a possible shutdown in the event there’s no six-letter word for a spending plan in place, I’m fairly certain the fair will go on. How else would summer’s continued abuse and misuse of Spandex fabric continue?
Back to business: It’s been almost two months since I checked in with fair officials about Grandstand ticket sales for this year’s 2007 Illinois State Fair.
So, on the verge of the fair and at a reader’s suggestion, here’s an update.
Daughtry is the first of this year’s acts to top 10,000 tickets. “American Idol” brought rocker Chris Daughtry to everyone’s attention and, as of Monday, the band that shares his last name had sold 10,570 tickets. With the cheapest seats at only $20, I’m guessing that walk-up sales will be strong for Sunday’s show and it could be the one packed-house concert of the year.
